Local animals

index_02.jpghealthcare epistemocrat: Local animals
We are local animals.
Ecological intelligence reflects locality: we know more about and operate more effectively within our immediate surroundings and environments. Tigers do not hunt well in oceans, and sharks function poorly in jungles. Yet, the beauty of the barbell strategy in the Information Age is that we can act locally and still have global effects. The saying, “Think globally, act locally,” speaks to this reality.
For example, Dr. Jay Parkinson acts locally, very locally - he is a neighborhood physician, meeting his patients in their homes and offices (in their “places”) - yet people across the country have learned of his innovative practices and about his use of the internet and technology to provide personalized, old-fashioned medical care. His health delivery model and hello health are scalable (click here), and other physicians could follow his lead, revolutionizing health services delivery with community/people-based solutions from the bottom up (notice the hands lifting the world up from the bottom in the image above): certainly, global effects resulting from local actions.
