Hunting: a Stochastic Art

healthcare epistemocrat: Hunting: a Stochastic Art
by epistemocrat
Hunting is a stochastic art. Much of medicine is, at its core, hunting: doctors search, and search, and search for correct diagnoses and optimal ways to restore, maintain, or improve their patients’ health. When hunting, lions and doctors alike must make punctuated switches from “searching” to “acting,” but it is impossible to predict when these switches - fractures - will occur. This unpredictability arises from the nature of information processing: it is non-linear. Information presents to hunters in non-linear, stochastic ways. Therefore, hunters must develop transient strategies for hunting and form temporary hypothesis about their prey. Knowing when to switch from searching to acting is one of the most important keys to effective hunting. (Cont…..)
